Special Education COVID-19 Update | Friday, June 25, 2021

Review‌ ‌the‌ ‌latest‌ ‌information‌ ‌related‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌coronavirus‌ ‌disease‌ ‌2019‌ ‌(COVID-19)‌ ‌pandemic.‌ Our special education attorneys and advocates can help you and your child prepare for the return to school.

Arlington Public Schools (APS)

  • APS summer school starts on July 6, 2021.
  • APS will hold virtual Town Halls for families on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. (in English) and 7:30 p.m. (in Spanish). These Town Halls will provide back-to-school updates and give families an opportunity to ask questions about the upcoming school year.
  • Families will have an ongoing chance to make a transition to in-person learning for the upcoming school year if they determine that it is the best decision for their student.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)

  • As FCPS prepares to offer five days of in-person instruction in the upcoming school year, they encourage families who unenrolled from FCPS to return.

Falls Church City Public Schools (FCCPS)

  • Summer school will be held July 6–30, 2021.

Prince William County Schools (PWCS)

  • PWCS has reported the results of their Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) feedback form. The following areas were voted most important in the use of the funds:
    • Prevention and Mitigation Strategies: maintaining healthy facilities
    • Addressing Unfinished Learning: evidence-based interventions, after-school programs
    • Addressing Student Needs: social-emotional needs, support for at-risk student populations, mental health needs
    • Other Uses of Funds: technology, facility improvements
