Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS)

  • ACPS will be administering short surveys every few weeks to assess whether they are meeting families’ expectations and determine how they can continue to support families.
  • ACPS outlined the phases of their Continuity of Learning Plan.
    • Phase 1.0 was the initial plan, before the governor declared schools would be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
    • Phase 2.0 was released on April 10 and included synchronous and asynchronous learning through the end of the school year.
    • Phase 3.0 will be shared on May 22 and will include summer learning, engagement, enrichment, and academic support.
    • Phase 4.0 will incorporate a plan to re-open for the 2020-2021 school year. It will involve multiple options, as they are still unsure of what kind of guidelines will be in place at that time. They are planning to release more information about this phase on June 26.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)

  • FCPS announced it will continue distance learning during the summer along with targeted intervention services.
    • Extended School Year (ESY) will be provided virtually from June 29 through July 24, 2020. FCPS is considering in-school ESY from August 3–13, depending on guidance from the state at that point.
    • Summer High School Credit Recovery classes will be offered virtually from July 6–24, and will allow students to recover credit for one failed course or receive intervention to support future success.
    • Online Campus will be available for all students to take courses for credit. It will be $375 for the summer.
    • FCPS will also offer continuity of learning with self-directed digital materials and support from teachers. More information on this will be provided before the end of the school year; but for middle and elementary school students, this will be available from June 29 through July 31.
  • FCPS is discussing what the 2020-2021 school year could look like, given that we are unsure of what guidelines will be in place in the fall. Some of the options they are considering include:
    • A virtual start to the school year
    • Returning to school with social distancing
    • Opening on time with the understanding that some students and staff may be unable to return and will participate in virtual learning.

  • FCCPS will not be holding in-person summer school or ESY. Instead, they will be offering ESY virtually.

Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS)

  • SCPS will be holding summer school virtually this year, in a similar format to their Continuous Learning Plan. ESY will also be conducted virtually, from June 1 to July 7, 2020.

Stafford County Public Schools

  • May 29, 2020 is the last day of school.
  • Summer learning opportunities will be offered virtually in different sessions.

    • High schools will have three opportunities for virtual learning. Registration is open until June 8. High school students have the option of working toward:
      • New Course Credit: May 20 – July 24

      • Recovery Learning (4th Quarter):

  • The Return to School Recovery Taskforce is planning for the 2020-2021 school year. They should have some decisions by mid-June
